Slow Opportunities Investing Locally

Our mission is to ensure resiliency of our farmers and our planet by empowering local food systems through 0% loans and micro grants.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Become a member of SOIL with an annual tax deductible donation of $250 or more. Farmers join for $25.

  2. Our regenerative pool of funds for local farms and enterprises grows.

  3. Members vote on loan awards: one member = one vote, no matter what the size of your donation.

  4. As loans are repaid, the capital goes back into our funding pool and becomes a new loan — a truly regenerative resource.

SOIL Boulder has granted forty-two 0% loans to local farmers and food enterprises totaling $1,150,450.

Since 2018, SOIL Boulder members have made charitable donations ranging from $250 to $50,000 to form a pool of regenerative funds for local farms and food enterprises.

We have received contributions from individuals, local businesses, NGO’s and farmers seeking to invest in the resilience of our local food system.

Members enjoy bimonthly socials held on farms with special talks, nibbles and tours. We review several loan presentations annually and members make the final decision on loan awards through voting: 1 person = 1 vote, no matter the size of your donation.

Annual membership begins at $250 per person ($25 for farmers) and is a tax-deductible donation. We gratefully receive additional donations, which combine with our regenerative pool of funds, to produce future 0% loans.

Local food is all about relationships, as is soil fertility. We need a new kind of funding that supports both. That is why we are making Slow Opportunities for Investing Locally.

We are a 1% for the Planet Environmental Impact partner!

Many thanks to a nomination by American Outdoor Products, one of our larger corporate members.
